Why You Don’t Track Activity On MyFitness Pal

My Notes

One of the things you are going to do when setting up your MyFitness Pal, is turn off the setting that allows the app to track your activity.

There are 3 reasons for this.

Firstly – your levels of activity have already been taken into consideration when calculating your calorie target, another reason why your calorie target from my programme is higher than MyFitness Pals.

So if your calorie target was still adjusting based on your level of activity in a day, or training then it would become inaccurate, and you would be working to the wrong target.

Secondly – the way MyFitness Pal displays exercise on their app, gives the impression that exercise earns food, and vice versa that if you are over your calorie target for a day, you can do exercise to balance it out.

Which is a really unhealthy mentality to have around exercise, food and fat loss.

Thirdly – it is very inaccurate. People often rely too much upon their fitness trackers to say how many calories they have burned during a particular workout. And MyFitness Pal is the same. It can be out by hundreds of calories.

If you are eating an extra 500 calories because it says you have burned so many in a day or from a particular workout, you are likely just going to be eating too much and won’t make the progress you are after.

So when we set up your MFP you will disconnect the ability for it to track your steps through your phone, and also, I advise you not to record your exercise in that app at all.
