My Notes

I want to explain how I envision this process going for you. In regard to both your understanding around your food and calories, and what it will look like long term for your life and maintaining your goals.

A lot of people get put off using MyFitness Pal to track their calories because their assumption is “I’m going to have to track what I eat every day for the rest of my life and I’m not doing that!”. Of course, if that were the case, then this wouldn’t be sustainable. Because no one will want to do that forever.

Using MyFitness Pal is going to be a tool that develops your understanding around what is in your food. Learning this information, is like learning anything else, it comes from exposure and experience.

If you can keep an accurate food diary for say 3 months, by the end of that period you will from repetition have gained a level of knowledge and awareness around food so that you know things such as:

- What a correct portion size looks like for you
- How many calories are in the different foods you eat
- How much food you should be eating to maintain your goals
- How to prepare your favourite meals for much fewer calories

Among the many other things you will learn from this programme.

Developing this knowledge around nutrition requires focus and repetition for a period of time until you get a better grasp of it.

But after that initial period of time, you will get to the point where it is second nature to you, to have this depth of understanding around what is in your food, to be able to subconsciously keep tabs on your diet so you can maintain your progress long term.

There will be times where this subconscious way of tracking slips a little bit, and you might find yourself having gained a little bit of weight or regressing slightly. It is going to happen.

But, by then you will have the understanding to recognise why that’s happened, where you have probably been over-consuming, and reign it back in again to balance things back out.

That is what maintenance looks like long term.
