My Notes
The scientific definition of a calorie is - a unit of energy defined as the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of a quantity of water by one degree.
But regarding its relevance to we humans and fat loss, a calorie is the unit of energy we use to determine how much energy is in the food/drinks that we consume. Which is important to know.
If we consume more energy (more calories) than our body needs, rather than wasting it, very cleverly it stores it as fat to use later if and when required. Which was pretty key for survival back in the day.
However now we have unlimited access to food, and it’s very easy to over-consume calories every single day, which means that that energy stored in our fat cells, is never required, or used.
On top of that, our bodies don’t know that we will never need this stored energy, so it continues to store any excess as fat.
To lose fat, we need to create calorie deficit, so that our body can start to use this energy stored in our fat cells. As we use this stored energy (our fat), the amount we have starts to decrease. You lose body fat. You lose weight.
