My Notes
Now this may seem a very strange question and the answer to this might seem obvious - well no benefit at all.
But when you take the time to think about it you realise that this isn’t the case.
There are always going to be some benefits.
For example, there is the benefit of simply not having to try.
The benefit of not having to motivate yourself to exercise, the benefit of being able to eat and drink as you please with seemingly no negative consequences.
These kinds of short-term gratifications are what makes it easy to not achieve your goals.
Because it is comfortable.
Recognising what these benefits have been for yourself makes it easier to understand and see why sometimes you make the decisions you make.
It is easy to choose short-term gratification. Until it’s not.
Until you’re not happy with how you feel, or what you see in the mirror.
Or the fact that certain clothes don’t fit anymore, or you can’t do what you used to physically.
It is comfortable until you realise you are uncomfortable, and unhappy.
Recognising what your potential comforts are of not achieving your goals, will help you catch yourself out when perhaps motivation slips, and things go a little off track.
That’s when it is time to refocus on your real goals and remember why they are important.
For you to make change your goals have to be worth it, because there is always going to be some level of compromise or sacrifice.
This is why it’s important to keep the reasons WHY your goals are important at the front of your mind, not just numbers.
Because the long-term gratification of achieving your goals, will remind you why you started in the first place, and can help you make better decisions in challenging moments, where sometimes you might feel like just giving in to those short term comforts.
So again take your time to answer the question. What benefits have you gained from not reaching your goal?
