My Notes
We live in a time now where it has never been easier to get fat.
Any food you could dream of can either be delivered to your house or is within a 15 minute drive. It's constantly in front of you - adverts on TV/social media, all deliberately marketed to make you want it. As well as this, pretty much every social event now revolves around consuming lots of alcohol and food.
Not only has it never been easier to over consume all these things, we also are more inactive than ever before. We don’t have to walk anywhere anymore, pretty much everyone has a car. Most people work sat down all day at a desk not moving, and after work we sit down some more to catch up on the latest TV series.
“Normal” life now is literally the perfect recipe for weight gain.
These changes in normality within society alone, means it has never been harder to lose weight and to keep it off.
Not only because of the constant temptations we now have to resist, and the fact we have to actively make ourselves move, but also if you are on a diet you start to remove yourself from a lot of social occasions, because as I mentioned before – most things we do with family or friends, revolve around going for food or drinks.
In my 9 years as a PT, I have never seen anyone place more value on their weight/or physical goals than they do those occasions with family and friends. Because despite our best health, actually living life is always going to be more important.
This lack of consideration for accommodating a social life is one of many reasons why diets very rarely work in the long term, which I will go into more detail about in the next video.
