My Notes
Technique is something that should never be overlooked when you are training, especially when lifting weights.
Performing an exercise correctly is the best way to ensure you are going to get the maximal benefits from that exercise, and it is the first thing you should nail down, before you even consider increasing weight.
Once you feel like you can perform an exercise comfortably, you feel in control of the technique, for the full number of reps in a set, then you can build on that foundation and gradually increase the weight you use.
But if an exercise feels too hard, you don’t feel like you are getting the right technique, it is causing you pain, then please find an alternative, or decrease the weight you are trying to lift until you master the technique.
Exercises aren’t meant to hurt. No pain no gain is one of the most idiotic phrases that there is.
Yes, when you are getting to the end of the set, lactic acid will build up in your muscles as you start to fatigue, it might start to burn a bit.
Certain exercises might give you a bit of a stretch and be challenging in some areas – that’s normal.
But your joints and bones should never hurt.
Pushing through the burn – is a good thing and will help you make progress.
But you should be moving freely during an exercise.
Too often people think just pushing through pain of any kind, even joint pain is a good thing, wherein reality all it will result in is injuries in the future, which again in the long run will hinder your progress more than anything else.
So there is no need to rush. Drop the ego. Doing the correct technique is more important than anything, build a solid foundation before you start lifting heavy weights for the sake of it.
It will benefit you more in the long run!
