My Notes
Taste and enjoyment are typically overlooked when it comes to people dieting and trying to lose weight.
People often feel like anything that tastes nice is ‘unhealthy’ or ‘fattening’, so they think they have to strip everything back to the bare bones, and just eat plain boring meals.
Ensuring that you are eating foods you enjoy when you are in a calorie deficit, is essential because otherwise, like with every other diet you have done, at some point enough will be enough, and you will stop.
You cannot continue forever eating bland food that you don’t actually like. It is not a sacrifice people are willing to make.
Which is why it is important to make sure you are having meals that taste good.
You should never eat anything you don’t enjoy eating.
As soon as you force yourself to eat something when trying to lose weight, you create resentment towards the process, and you will be waiting for the moment when you get to make up for it, by bingeing on the foods you love and have restricted yourself from.
This is why you can and should still include the foods like pizza, cheeseburgers, chocolates, in moderation in your diet.
Despite the fact that they are very calorie dense, they may be low in nutrients, they might not even be that filling – it keeps you enjoying the process.
And this is the bit that ties in with satiety, your diet needs to leave you feeling satisfied.
It is important that not only after you finish a meal that physically you feel satisfied but mentally as well.
If you aren’t enjoying the meals you eat, you are more likely to have that desire after your meal to still reach for something else to satisfy your taste buds.
That might be something sweet, or just something else to fill that little void.
Either way, if you find yourself in this position, you are more likely to go over your calorie target and it will prevent you from making progress.
And then the foods that will take the blame are the tasty things you reached for – like chocolate
Where in reality, the main reason you wanted that chocolate is because you were on a boring diet!
With correct planning, you can create a calorie deficit whilst including all of these things, which then limits the occasions where you unexpectedly go over your target because of cravings.
