My Notes
Recovery is one of the most overlooked and underappreciated aspects of training.
Remember – you are not trying to burn as many calories as possible by training every day.
You are training for physical adaptation, building muscle, getting stronger, getting fitter, not anything to do with weight loss.
So with that in mind, for optimal results, rest days are incredibly important.
When you are training your body needs time to recover. It is during your rest and recovery time that your body makes the adaptations it needs, to continue to progress and deal with the overload you are exposing it to.
As you get more experienced with training, your body can typically recover faster.
But that is why it is important not to go over the top. Again, if you are not recovered properly, you increase the risk of injury.
You might be a little stiff going into your workout, that’s to be expected but you do not want to feel ruined every single day.
There can be this perception that this is the goal of lifting weights, and it is one of the reasons why people are often put off resistance training.
Rest days are important. You will still be active on those days and hit your step targets.
But resting from resistance training, is essential to allow your body to recover so that the next time you can train you can push yourself and be able to do more and improve on your last workout.
If you are too stiff, you aren’t going to be able to perform optimally.
So rest days and a good night sleep are essential.
It is the best way to ensure that your body is going to recover optimally, so that when it comes to training days, you can go again and feel great, and get the most out of your workouts.
