My Notes

Another thing I am sure you will have heard at some point is this phrase, you are not eating enough to lose weight.

No one is overweight from eating too little. Fact. Have you ever seen someone who is starving but is overweight? Whether that be a hungry child in poverty, someone on I’m A Celebrity, or old footage of people in prisoner of war camps – when you are starving you lose weight.

That being said, this myth so to speak exists for a reason. When people are dieting and trying to lose weight, one of the biggest battles is trying to avoid getting hungry at all costs.

The best way to do this is eat a lot of low calorie density foods, which means you can eat a large volume of them for very few calories. These are typically the foods that slimming world and weightwatchers call free. Lean meats, fat free products, fruit, and vegetables.

Now the only way to lose weight is to create a calorie deficit. And it doesn’t matter what foods you eat to create the deficit, however, if you have eaten all your calories in a day from just chocolate, you will be hungry.

It is highly unlikely that you will be able to resist that hunger and as a result you will probably overeat and struggle to lose weight or perhaps even gain weight.

Whereas if you are eating large volumes of low calorie density foods, you may be eating “more food” so to speak for fewer calories and you will find it easier to create a calorie deficit, and therefore lose weight.

So it is important to understand that you are never not losing weight because you aren’t consuming enough calories. But by not eating a large enough volume of food for your calories, you may end up hungry and as a result – over the course of the week overeating and it can affect your progress.
