My Notes

On low fat diets you are typically restricting the amount of meat, dairy products, and oils that you consume.

By simply removing these foods from your diet, you create a calorie deficit and as a result you lose weight.

It is typically foods higher in fat that you will see labelled as high in syns or points in weight watchers and slimming world because, it is really easy to create a calorie deficit by removing these foods from your diet. This is because fat contains more than double the calories of any other macronutrient. (Which I go into more detail about in other videos).

But there are 2 main problems with low fat diets.

Firstly it can lead people to believing that these foods that contain fat are inherently fattening. They believe that it is the absence of these foods that has led to them making progress, not the fact that by removing them they have created a calorie deficit.

Secondly, similarly to low carb diets, you are often removing certain foods that people eat on a daily basis and that they have no desire or intention of living without long term.

If you find it easy creating a calorie deficit by decreasing fats in your diet then no problem, but there is no need to cut them out completely.

As long as you create the same calorie deficit, the results will be the same, no matter how you achieve it, so you don’t have to worry about never being able to eat your favourite foods again.

How you decide to create your calorie deficit is up to you.
