My Notes

Something that is really important to address is this basic misunderstanding that there are “good” foods and “bad” foods.

The fitness industry has been great at idolising and demonising certain foods, as I touched on in my videos about the different diets and nutrition myths.

And a lot of the diets contradict each other. Which diet you follow, determines which category foods belong to - good or bad!

Which leaves you feeling very confused about what you are actually meant to eat

The reality is that there are no good or bad foods. It's an incorrect definition.

Instead of labelling foods either good or bad, you can start by considering these four factors when looking at your food

The four factors are:

– how satiating is a particular food? How calorie dense is it? How nutrient dense is it? do you enjoy it?

How satiating a food is, is – how filling is it, does it satisfy your hunger?

How Energy dense a food is, is – how many calories does it have?

How Nutrient Dense a food is, is – how many nutrients are in it? does it have plenty of protein, fibre, vitamins etc, all the good stuff your body needs

Last but not least - Do you enjoy it – does it taste nice, do you like eating it!

Some foods are calorie dense, lacking in nutrients and poorly satiating, but they taste incredible

Others are the opposite, they are packed with nutrients, very satiating and low in calories, but they aren’t as enjoyable to eat

All of these factors have a massively important part to play when it comes to your diet. In the next videos I will explain each of them in more detail, and help you recognise why it is just as important that you can eat your favourite foods guilt free, as it is to eat plenty of vegetables and lean protein!
