My Notes

Now and again you will forget to track your food. It happens.

But limiting these occasions will drastically improve your chances of making progress.

When people forget to track their food, more often than not, they tend to eat more as they aren’t as aware of, or as focused on the decisions they are making.

It Is also shown that people no matter how hard they try, are more often than not going to forget things they’ve had as they reflect on their day.

Still in hindsight the best you can do is try and think back over the day, remember what you had as best as possible and give it your best estimate.

Then at least you have a better idea of what you might have consumed, and you can continue being consistent with your tracking and move forward from there.

It is not going to be 100% accurate but it is much better than ignoring it completely and continuing with 0% accuracy.

But the best things to do is simply avoid finding yourself in this situation.

The best habit you can get into when tracking your food is doing it in advance.

When you plan your meals ahead of time you are making decisions that are harder to make in the moment.

At the end of a long day deciding things like what shall we have for tea can be surprisingly exhausting.

If you plan this ahead of time, and track it, then all that’s left to do is cook. You don’t have to think about – what can I make to fit within my calories, what is easy to track and so on.

And you can do this as far ahead as you like! A meal, an entire day, an entire week!

It saves you making the decisions and having to do it at the time, and you know it is all taken care of.

However – just ensure that as you go, the portion sizes you actually use are the same as what you tracked beforehand.
