My Notes

Another common belief that people have is that eating fat will make you fat.

Why do people think that this is the case?

Firstly just because of the word “fat” people make a connection between dietary fat and body fat, but it is important to understand they are not the same thing.

Let’s look back on the video on low fat diets. You are told that eating fats will make you fat, so it is best if you remove them from your diet.

You remove an entire food group that you eat regularly and again as a result have created a calorie deficit.

At the end of the week you check in and sure enough – you have lost weight!

Once again – the result backs up the statement. Is that not evidence that it must be true? That fat makes you fat.

But when you break it down again the same logic applies. Think about it. You remove an entire food group, so you create a calorie deficit.

You have created a calorie deficit, so you have lost weight. The fact that it was created by removing fats from the diet isn’t the point. The same occurs if you remove sugar or carbs.

By recognising this again, that it will always come down creating a calorie deficit,
it helps remove any fear you have about certain foods making you fat.
