My Notes
As well as getting caught up worrying about what they are eating, people can get concerned about when they are eating.
A common misconception is that if you eat too late at night, you won’t have the time to burn the calories off that you consume. So as a result, they will be stored as fat.
So what happens? Someone who is used to eating late at night all of a sudden, stops eating anything after 8pm. So rather than having their usual evening snack or supper, they just go without.
They stick to this habit for a week or so and sure enough when it comes to weighing themselves, they have made progress!
Wow so it is true!! All the food I was eating late at night was being stored as fat…
Well no. By setting the rule of “no eating after 8pm” you naturally created a calorie deficit, because you were no longer having that extra bit of food on a night. As a result of that calorie deficit you lost weight.
It’s the same principle that I touch on in the video about intermittent fasting. It is a simple way to create a calorie deficit, but it relies upon ensuring you don’t start to consume the calories elsewhere.
Whether you eat your calories all in one sitting, spread out across the entire day, or in three typical meals, it makes no difference. As long as you are consuming the same number of calories the result will be the same.
If having an eating window helps you create a calorie deficit, then fantastic you can use that to your advantage, but it is important to understand the reason you are making your progress is because of that deficit, not the time of day that you are or aren’t eating.
