My Notes

I am sure that at some point we have all heard the phrase – breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But why?

Well some say that it helps “stoke your metabolism” so that your body is burning more energy throughout the day.

If you don’t have breakfast, you will put your body into starvation mode and when you come to eating lunch you will store it all as fat! So you need to eat little and often.

Again this is similar to the example I gave looking at intermittent fasting. It is always going to be circumstantial.

Some people if they don’t have breakfast are starving all day.

By the time it comes to eating they are so hungry they consume their entire daily calorie intake in one sitting.

That same person when they have breakfast, may not feel as hungry all day, as a result they make better choices, and come the end of the day have actually consumed fewer calories than they would if they didn’t have breakfast.

So for that person having breakfast is a good idea. It may even result in them losing weight because over the course of the day they consume fewer calories.

It is not because their breakfast “stoked their metabolism “.

On the other hand,

Some people can last until lunch time or even longer without breakfast and feel absolutely fine.

In their case adding breakfast for the sake of it would increase their calorie intake and possibly result in them actually gaining weight.

It may also increase their appetite throughout the rest of the day and increase their intake even further!

It depends on the individual.

The important thing to understand is that the only reason it would ever result in fat loss is because that behaviour results in you creating a calorie deficit.

So just like you don’t have to worry about any types of food being “bad” or making you fat, you also don’t have to worry about the times of day that you are eating. As long as the number of calories you consume in a day is the same, the results will be the same.

So find an eating pattern that suits you.
